Driving in Ireland on a licence written in Portuguese, Cyrillic, Chinese or Georgian script raises a simple problem: the car hire desk, your insurer or a Garda at a checkpoint may not be able to read it. We translate foreign driving licences into English, with every category, restriction and date explained, and Irish licences into other languages for driving abroad. A translation does not replace an international driving permit where one is required. €29.95 per page, delivered in 24 hours.
No account required. No commitment. Exact price in seconds.
Send a photo, scan or PDF of your driving licence through our secure portal. We count the words and show you the exact price in euro straight away.
A professional translator completes your translation, and we attach a signed Certificate of Accuracy with our full contact details, company stamp and reference number.
Your certified translation arrives by email as a PDF, ready to submit. A hard copy by tracked post or an apostille can be added at checkout. 12-hour expedited service on request.
No add-ons hidden in the small print. Everything below is standard.
Worded to mirror the format Irish bodies publish: a statement that it is a true translation of the original, the date, the translator’s name and signature, and our address, phone and email.
Both sides of the card: your name and date of birth, licence number, issuing authority, dates of first issue, issue and expiry for each category, vehicle categories and sub-categories, restriction and condition codes, special notes, the holder’s signature line and any security or verification features described in brackets.
A native speaker with experience in your exact document type, never machine translation. The same translator across all your documents on request.
Every certificate carries our company stamp and a unique reference number, which several Irish registration bodies and the Foreign Births Register ask to see.
Emailed as a PDF on completion. Where the receiving body wants paper, add a hard copy sent by tracked post at checkout.
Free revisions until you are happy. If a receiving body rejects the translation, we revise it free or refund you in full.
€29.95 per page (300 source words). A standard card licence, front and back, fits on one page. Adding a letter from your previous insurer showing your claims history is usually one more page. A 12-hour expedited service is available on request if you pick up a hire car tomorrow.
Irish rules on foreign licences depend on where yours was issued, and a translation is a practical aid rather than a legal requirement. Here is where our clients use one.
Licences from recognised states can be used for up to 1 year when visiting. Other non-EU licences can be used for up to 12 months with an international driving permit from your country.
Rental companies set their own licence rules. Some ask for an international driving permit or a translation when a licence is not in English, so check with yours before you travel.
New residents asking for a quote often want their foreign driving experience and claims history considered. Insurers can only weigh documents they can read.
Carry your licence when driving. A certified English translation kept with it can help a Garda read a licence in a non-Latin script, alongside any permit you are required to hold.
Only EU/EEA and recognised-state licences can be exchanged. Japanese and Korean exchanges need a translation from the embassy, and Ukrainian licences can no longer be exchanged.
Driving outside the EU on an Irish licence? We translate it into the local language for hire companies abroad, alongside the international driving permit you get from the NDLS.
Same €29.95 per page whatever the language. These are the languages we see most often from clients in Ireland.
Licences pack a lot of meaning into codes, colours and small fields. We translate each one so an Irish insurer or hire company can see what you may drive and how long you have held it.
The CNH shows categories A to E and the 1ª Habilitação date, which tells an insurer how long you have driven. A Permissão para Dirigir is a probationary first-year licence; we translate it as such rather than as a full licence.
You can drive on it in Ireland under temporary protection, but it can no longer be exchanged. We translate the categories, special marks and dates so insurers and hire companies can read it.
The Chinese licence gives the permitted class (准驾车型), for example C1 for manual cars or C2 for automatics, the first issue date (初次领证日期) and the validity period. We explain each class code.
For an NDLS exchange, a Japanese licence needs the embassy’s translation, not ours. Our translation is for car hire and insurers, and explains the licence class, conditions and the colour band showing driver status.
Georgia is a recognised state for licence exchange, and the card follows a numbered-field layout. We translate the Georgian-only fields, categories and restriction codes for insurers and hire companies.
A Polish EU licence is valid in Ireland as it is. What Polish drivers usually need translated is the insurer’s claims-history certificate, which can support your insurance quote here.
We translate driving licences and insurer claims letters into English, and Irish licences into other languages for driving abroad. A professional translator renders every category and code, a second check confirms dates and numbers against the card, and you receive a signed, stamped certified translation as a PDF you can print and keep with your licence.
