Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about certified translation services in the United States.

What is a certified translation and do I need one? +
A certified translation includes a signed and dated Certificate of Accuracy from the translator, affirming that the translation is a complete and accurate rendering of the original document. USCIS, federal courts, state courts, universities, and most government agencies in the U.S. require certified translations for any foreign-language document submitted with an application or filing. If you are submitting a document to a U.S. government body, institution, or court, you almost certainly need a certified translation. Our certified translations are accepted by USCIS, all 50 state courts, and universities across the United States.
Is your certified translation accepted by USCIS? +
Yes. Our certified translations fully comply with USCIS requirements under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3). Each translation includes a certificate of accuracy signed by a qualified translator who certifies that they are competent to translate and that the translation is accurate and complete. We have successfully completed thousands of USCIS submissions including green card applications, naturalization petitions, asylum cases, family-based petitions, and visa applications. If USCIS requests a specific format or additional documentation, we will revise at no charge.
How much does a certified translation cost? +
Our certified translations start at $29.95 per page. A “page” is typically one side of a standard-size document. For most standard documents like a birth certificate or marriage certificate, the cost is $29.95–$59.90 total. Optional add-ons include notarization (+$19.95), expedited processing (+$14.95/page), handwritten text (+$14.95/page), extra certified copy (+$4.95), and apostille authentication ($149.95). You can get a free exact quote in under 5 minutes by submitting your document here.
How fast can I get my translation? +
Standard turnaround is 1–3 business days for most documents. If you need your translation faster, our Expedited Processing option (+$14.95/page) cuts the turnaround time in half. For urgent same-day requests, please contact us directly at Contact@officialtranslations.com or call +1 (949) 667-1775. Turnaround times depend on document complexity and length, but we are committed to meeting your deadlines.
What languages do you translate? +
We offer certified translation in over 100 languages, including Spanish, Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Italian, Ukrainian, Farsi/Persian, Korean, and Japanese. We also cover less common languages and regional dialects. Visit our full language list or contact us if you don't see your language.
Do I need to mail my original documents? +
No. You can upload digital copies (photos, scans, or PDFs) of your documents through our secure online portal. We do not require original documents for translation. Your translated documents are delivered digitally as PDF files. If you need a hard copy mailed to you, we offer physical delivery for an additional fee. Your originals never leave your hands.
What is the difference between certified and notarized translation? +
A certified translation includes a Certificate of Accuracy signed by the translator, attesting to the accuracy and completeness of the translation. This is what most U.S. government agencies, including USCIS, require. A notarized translation goes one step further: a notary public witnesses and stamps the translator's certification, adding an extra layer of legal authentication. Notarization is required by some courts, financial institutions, and certain legal proceedings. We offer both services. Notarization adds $19.95 to your order.
