Country-Specific Knowledge

We Know Your Country’s Birth Certificate Format

Every country issues birth certificates differently, and since 1 January 2021 the UK no longer accepts the EU multilingual standard form in lieu of a translation. We’ve translated tens of thousands from every region. Here’s the most common gotcha for each top source.

🇵🇱 Poland · Akt urodzenia

Issued by the Urząd Stanu Cywilnego, usually as the odpis skrócony (short) or zupełny (full) copy. Since Brexit the UK no longer accepts the EU multilingual annex, so a full certified English translation is now required for the Home Office.

🇷🇴 Romania · Certificat de naștere

Issued by the Primăria / Starea Civilă. The EU multilingual extract (Convention form) is no longer accepted by UK bodies since 1 January 2021; we provide the full certified translation the Home Office and UKVI now require.

🇲🇽 Mexico · Acta de Nacimiento

Issued by the Registro Civil. Current CURP-format certificates are single-page printed documents; older records are handwritten book extracts. CURP, folio and tome/page numbers are preserved exactly. A certified translation is sufficient for the Home Office.

🇨🇳 China · 出生医学证明

The 出生医学证明 (hospital birth certificate) is most commonly submitted; some applicants also hold a 出生公证书 (notarial birth certificate). We translate both, preserving all stamps, seals and official field text.

🇵🇰 Pakistan · NADRA Birth Certificate

The computerised NADRA / Union Council birth certificate is usually bilingual Urdu-English, but the Urdu entries, seals and older manual certificates need certified translation for UKVI.

🇮🇳 India · Municipal Birth Certificate

Issued by the Municipal Corporation, Gram Panchayat or hospital registrar. Hindi- and regional-language certificates need translation; English-only ones generally do not. We translate all formats, preserving the registration number.

Every Language Routes Through the Same Trusted Pipeline

We translate birth certificates both into English and from English into any target language. Whether your document is in Polish, Romanian, Urdu, Arabic, Chinese or any other language, every order follows the same quality-controlled process. You upload, we translate, certify and deliver – ready to submit to the Home Office, UKVI or any UK body that requires it.

FAQs

Birth Certificate Translation: Common Questions

Does the Home Office require a certified birth certificate translation?+
Yes. UKVI and the Home Office require a full certified English translation of any foreign-language document, showing the translator’s certification that it is accurate, the date, and the translator’s name and contact details. Our signed Certificate of Accuracy meets this exactly.
How much does certified birth certificate translation cost in the UK?+
£29.95 per page (1 page = 300 source words). Most birth certificates fit on a single page. No surcharge for rarer languages. A hard copy by post and UK apostille can be added at checkout.
How long does certified birth certificate translation take?+
Standard turnaround is 24 hours for documents of 1–3 pages, and most single-page certificates are delivered the same working day. A 12-hour expedited service is available on request for urgent deadlines.
My EU birth certificate has a multilingual annex – do I still need a translation?+
Yes. Since 1 January 2021 the UK no longer accepts the EU multilingual standard form (Regulation 2016/1191) or CIEC multilingual extracts in place of a translation. The Home Office, UKVI, HMCTS and universities now require a full certified English translation, which we provide.
Do I need notarisation or an apostille for my birth certificate translation?+
A signed Certificate of Accuracy alone is the accepted standard for the Home Office, UKVI, HMCTS, DVLA, the NHS and universities. An apostille (from £149.95) is only needed when your translated document will be used abroad under the 1961 Hague Convention.
What languages do you translate birth certificates from?+
All 195+ countries, in 100+ languages. We translate Polish akty urodzenia, Romanian certificate de naștere, Urdu and Pakistani NADRA certificates, Mexican actas de nacimiento, Chinese 出生医学证明 and every other format.
Can you translate a damaged or hard-to-read birth certificate?+
Yes. We accept scans, photos and clear copies. Illegible sections are marked as [illegible] with translator’s notes where appropriate. If we cannot certify a portion, you’ll know before paying.
