What Is an Apostille

When You Need an Apostille

An apostille is a standardised certificate accepted by more than 120 countries that are party to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. It confirms that a public document, or a certified translation of it, is genuine so foreign authorities will accept it without further legalization. You typically need one when you are using a Canadian document abroad – for a marriage overseas, foreign university admission, dual citizenship, an overseas job, adopting or working internationally, or presenting Canadian records to a foreign court or registry.
