What IRCC Requires

The IRCC Translation Rule

IRCC does not accept documents in languages other than English or French. Every foreign-language document – birth and marriage certificates, police clearances, diplomas, bank statements, and more – must be accompanied by a complete certified translation. Where the translation is done by a translator who is not certified by a Canadian provincial body, IRCC requires the translation to be accompanied by an affidavit swearing to its accuracy, sworn before a notary. We handle both the certified translation and the sworn affidavit so your application is complete.

FAQs

Certified Translation for IRCC: Common Questions

Does IRCC accept translations by non-certified translators?+
Yes, provided the translation is accompanied by a sworn affidavit of accuracy. IRCC explicitly allows a certified translation from a non-certified translator when a sworn affidavit is included. We provide both together.
What is a sworn affidavit and do I need one?+
It is a document in which the translator swears, before a notary, that the translation is complete and accurate. You need one for IRCC immigration applications when the translator is not certified by a Canadian provincial association. It is not required for universities, WES, or most other uses.
Which documents need to be translated for IRCC?+
Any document not already in English or French – commonly birth, marriage and divorce certificates, police clearance certificates, diplomas and transcripts, and financial records. We can translate from and to any language pair.
